Packaging sculptures

Sculptures come in so many shapes, dimensions and materials that’s too difficult to provide adequate guidelines. Most sculptures will need to travel in wooden crates with internal braces to keep them in place. This is a specialized job and in most cases should be left to the art packing specialists.

Small sculptures of up to about 15 kgs could be packed in double wall cardboard boxes but this will depend upon the material used for the sculpture.

If you need advice with packing a sculpture please get in contact with us and we will discuss your particular case. For artists based in the UK we also have details of some recommended companies for you to approach who specialize in the construction of wooden cases for shipping.

If you have the necessary woodworking skills and the tools you could build a wooden case yourself. Please note that it will depend on where the package is being shipped to as to whether you can build it yourself. If it’s going outside the EU the wooden case needs to be constructed by an specialist firm working under the ISPM15 regulations to control the spread of plant infections.

Please get in touch with us if your work needs a wooden case for its transportation. We have designs you can use if, after reading the above, you want to make it yourself.
